Celebrities Return to Glitch City, Zaibatsu Flounders, Refugees Take Over Park

The Return of the King

It’s the most wonderful time of the year in the city that shouldn’t exist, and what better way to celebrate it than with the return of an intergalactic pop idol?

Kira Miki (creation name Michelle Kingston, Model: CH1A King-class), lilim jazz singer turned superstar, announced her return planet-side on her blog near the end of November, reportedly returning from “Alpha Centauri” where she said she had been touring space colonies for both work and pleasure. She left on her voyage roughly a year ago shortly after her last concert in Glitch City, when the idol decided she needed a change of scenery.

“Inspiration can come from any place,” Miki said of her visit, “And I had heard that some people up there were lonely… so I thought I’d cheer them up, you know? It’s the least I could do [while I was in the area],” she said.

Her producer said that he agreed with her reasoning, but that it was time to go home “and not keep [her] other fans waiting,” he said. At press time, Miki and her producer are still in a relationship.

To consummate her interstellar voyage, the idol will be performing at a return concert at the QUIDTRID Omni-Dome (Previously named the “Zaibatsu Entertainment Arena”) on December 23rd, with all proceeds benefitting the Glitch City Refugee Crisis Center, a recently formed charitable and tax-deductible organization created in response to a growing body of refugees from the local interstellar community, Miki’s producer said. Tickets are expected to be 450 zenny each, or 200 each in a group of five, Miki’s producer said.

The Omni-Dome is expected to reach maximum capacity as soon as sales begin, Miki’s producer said, and nearby hotels will be rented to view the event on an as-needed basis, he said.

“ANDROMEDA” Thirteenth Season and Movie to be Filmed in Glitch City, Director Seeking Extras

The so called “soap-sensation that’s sweeping the nation!” is coming to Glitch City with business opportunities for all, Aiden Adirondack, the producer and director of the titular Andromeda trideo series, said.

Adirondack said that ratings for his otherwise solo- shot, edited, directed, and sometimes acted, trideo-serial received disproportionately high ratings in Glitch City, so he wanted to take advantage of the local talent, the director said.

“Look, I started this mess literally in my garage with a couple of sofas, some mattresses, and a green screen from a thrift shop,” Adirondack said, “I didn’t expect us to get any farther than direct-to-trideo, so if there are some jokers who- er, uh, excuse me, uh, if we have some FANS in the area who really love what I do, who really love ANDROMEDA, then it only makes sense that we visit. “ANDROMEDA” is an ongoing science fiction soap opera involving the titular main character of “Andromeda,” and her struggles to defend both her intergalactic space kingdom and her virtue from the forces of evil. She is often joined by an eclectic band of allies, including various princes from other space royalties, mutants, robots, and, in one case, a sentient refrigerator.

“That was like, the best season ever,” Adirondack said, “Seriously. I thought about using a toaster but a refrigerator was so much better,” he said. “Not that, er, that there’s anything wrong with a toaster, it’s just that refrigerators are so much better. Yeah. Totally,” he said.

Adirondack has already purchased advertisements encouraging aspiring actors and actresses to apply, with a filming date that is still to be announced, he said. He expects there to be a large turnout.

“Come on kids, you know you wanna,” he said, “When I’m done with you, you’ll forget what life was like WITHOUT Andromeda!” he said.

“Andromeda” is distributed by QUIDTRID Broadcasting Corporation, which picked up the series three years ago, saving the small time production from bankruptcy. Adirondack remains the series auteur to this day.

Zaibatsu Stock Continues to Drop, Rock Bottom Still Not Visible

While no longer diving, Zaibatsu’s stock reached its lowest point yesterday as it relinquished its remaining control over the last of the White Knight military forces, a representative with the company said. The representative, who asked that they not be named, said that the stigma from the Twenty-Four Hour’s War and the subsequent loss of several riot-control divisions during the protests that followed were to blame, they said.

“The fact is, this city has become even more of a cesspit than it was to begin with,” the representative said, “The higher-ups are considering pulling out- we’re running out of cards to play,” the representative said.

Long renowned for its contributions to AI-personhood and top of the line healthcare that originally made Glitch City a technological mecca, Zaibatsu has suffered predation from new and upcoming businesses in the past year and a half, from headhunting to corporate espionage, the representative said. In particular, the influence of the enigmatic hacking collective known as “Alice_Rabbit” may have played a pivotal role in the corporation’s suffering, they said.

The user or users that make up “Alice_Rabbit” released damaging information to social media at large just over a year ago, creating a scandal which rocked both the White Knights and Zaibatsu with aftershocks that are still felt today, they said. From there, the predation only worsened, they said.

“First, we got blindsided by the QUINCY administration cutting our contracts and turning to mercenaries,” the representative said, “Then you had all these other [expletive] pushing their way in, fighting each other- it was like a feeding frenzy,” they said. The competing corporations appeared to comprise of several industries, many of which Zaibatsu is involved in themselves and, for as long as anyone can recall, held a monopoly over until now, they said.

“Don’t even get me started on Veri-,” they said, before the connection suddenly cut off.

At press time, the White Knights have been severely diminished and now operate small, specialized teams as opposed to fielding entire battalions, a source within the White Knights said. Law enforcement is instead being slowly adopted by a newly developed organization, which simply refers to itself as “The Glitch City Police Department,” the source said.

Refugee Crisis Expands to Neko Park

The number of homeless in Glitch City continues to grow, bolstered by the near daily arrival of refugees from fallen colonies in the wake of an interstellar civil war. Due to zoning laws and the enforcement of loitering and property regulations in several city slums, many shanty towns have been disassembled, pushing the affected refugees to gather in Neko Park, GCPD officer Sgt. R. Batty said.

“They’re being herded like cattle,” Batty said, “Only reason they haven’t been kicked out of there too is because the park owners don’t mind so much,” he said.

Neko Park was recently rebuilt following a battle between an unknown bipedal tank, various security forces, and the super heroic sentai team “The Justice Wardrobe,” with much of the funding and reconstruction efforts lead by the energy corporation “Jinterprises.” They purchased the park soon after.

The newly rebuilt park hosts a memorial to the lives lost during the conflict, which “inspires people to persevere” in the wake of tragedies and to “continue the march of progress,” a representative said. During the rebuilding process, phosphorescent cells which absorb daylight were installed into the pathways, which light up in the evenings, in addition to heating elements which keep the walkways free of snow and ice, not to mention warm, the representative said. These improvements were likely why the homeless chose to gather here, they said.

Over the course of the past two months, the “hobo city” has only grown larger, now comprising of a medical area, a cantina, “walls” of cardboard weighted down with reclaimed bricks and fallen trees, and tents insulated with camping tarp. The GCPD has not made any moves to remove the refugees, nor do Jinterprises mind, although some residents are skeptical.

“Why don’t they all just get a job?” asked one resident, who asked that she not be named, “Or go back home? Anything’s got to be better than freezing to death in a public park,” she said, “Just leave us out of it.”

Other residents had more pressing concerns. “These people are beyond backwards,” one resident said, who also asked to not be named, “They’re not particularly friendly with lilims. Or the augmented, for that matter. You should have seen how they treated a bunch of lilim doctors the other day, when they went to visit- they started throwing shit, yelling curses like, ‘tin cans’ and ‘joy-toys.’ [expletive] that,” he said.
